Absent God (Y. Ron, 2016)

The philosopher Emmanuel Levinas merged the experience of the Holocaust with Talmudic wisdom and contemporary Western philosophy. The film presents Levinas’ notion of “ethics as optics,” which draws a line between the biblical prohibition of images, a unique analysis of the human face and modern-day visual representation of morality.

The film comprises interviews with Levinas, archival footage from the beginning of the 20th century to the present, and interviews with leading philosophers and artists : Jean-Luc Marion, Luc Dardenne, Michael Levinas, Catherine Chalier, Daniel Epstein, Youssef Seddik, Hagi Kenaan and others.
